Jane Eyre Project

For the Jane Eyre project I would like to do a traditional analytical essay on the supernatural happenings in Jane Eyre. My three points could be when she is locked in the red room, when she sees the light in nature, and when she hears Rochester calling for her.

Little Brother Reflection 12

Overall, Little Brother was a great book.  Except for a couple slow parts, the book was action packed and had a lot of unexpected moments.  There were a lot of characters included and they all played a pretty big role.  I think the book was more aimed towards teens because it was a story about one teen who took down a whole part of the government.  I think doing blog posts on the book was  a good idea because it was a good way to check if we were actually reading and an easy way to share thoughts about the books.  I think I would like Little Brother more than Ender's Game because Little Brother is more realistic and in the present while Ender's Game is set in the future.

Little Brother Reflection 11

This reflection has to do with chapter 21 and the epilogue.  Chapter 21 is both sad and happy.  Marcus finds both Darryl and Ange but Darryl is "broken" from all the time he was held by the DHS.  I was surprised that after all that time he wasn't released or killed.  He goes to a hospital and the doctors say that he will recover.  Marcus still has to go to court and ends up only getting charged for stealing Masha's cell phone.  I think this is funny because after all that Marcus did such as jamming people and speaking out against the Government, all he is charged for is a Misdemeanor Petty Theft.  I was mad when I found out that Carrie Johnstone was free because she held people in the prison for so long and treated them poorly.  I knew that Darryl and Van would eventually be together but Zeb and Masha get together too which was surprising.  The ending was good with Ange and Marcus going to get a burrito.

Little Brother Reflection 10

The game that Marcus is planning seems a little silly because they are going to be running around in public dressed like vampires.  I was surprised when 1000 people showed up to play the game.  After playing the game for a little bit, the DHS comes because there are 1000 vampires running around on the streets.  It was  good idea by Marcus to tell everyone to pretend to be gassed because everyone would freak out.  Everybody did freak out and the DHS dropped gas onto the xnetters.  When it said Marcus was grabbed from behind I thought it would be the DHS but it was Masha.  Many crazy things happen after that but Marcus eventually ends up with Severe Haircut Lady again which I thought was going to happen.  Marcus is then saved by Barbara which was unexpected because the Governor said that the DHS could no longer operate in the San Francisco area.  I thought that the National Government would overrule this but Marcus was saved.

Little Brother Reflection 9

In chapter 17 Marcus is contacted by someone named Masha.  She says she is from the DHS and that she can help Marcus.  If I were Marcus, I wouldn't trust Masha because she is working with the DHS even though she says she is going to help Marcus.  After the conversation with Masha the book gets a little boring.  It is about to get really exciting but they start to talk about Marcus's past playing games where he pretends to be different things.  It has a point though because it gives a little more background information about Charles and hosting a role playing game is part of Marcus's plan to bring down the DHS.  I think the next chapters will be action-packed and make up for chapter 18.

Little Brother Reflection 8

When Marcus holds a press conference, I find it funny how all the reporters have to play the Pirate game in order to ask Marcus questions.  I think Marcus did well in the press conference except for when he said how he was 17.  He also told the reporters that he was not a straight-A student.  If the DHS is keeping an eye on Marcus and Mikey, they might figure out that they are the same person.  After giving information to the reporters, Marcus tells his parents about how he was held and interrogated.  I was surprised that Mr. Yallow went from being on the DHS's side to being on Marcus's side so quickly.  I thought that he would tell Marcus that they had a good reason to hold him as a prisoner.  Mr. Yallow gets so mad that he calls him friend from a newspaper and Marcus and Ange go to tell her Marcus's story.

Little Brother Reflection 7

At the beginning Of chapter 13 Mrs. Chavez is fired. This isn't good for Marcus because she was his only teacher that understood him. I didn't expect to see Van again but Marcus sees her when he goes to meet Ange at her school. I also think it's funny that Ange and Van go to the sane schooland don't like eachother. Later in te chapter Marcus uploads a video and a lot of people watch it. He was contacted by many news stations to use it. Lots of these people seem suspicious so Marcus made the right choice ignoring them. Later Marcus goes to Ange's house. I was surprised to see that all they did was go on xnet.

Little Brother Reflection 6

At the beggining of chapter 11 Marcus starts to talk with Ange more.  I think Ange fills the spot in of Van.  I found it suprising that the original four at the beginning of the book all separated because I thought they were going to go through the whole book together and eventually find Darryl.  Instead both Van and Jolu have left the group and Marcus is the only one left.  However Marcus gains new friends such as Ange.  Ange then asks Marcus out on a date to a concert.  This could be dangerous for Marcus because it is an illegal concert.  If the DHS show up, he could be taken away again.  Sure enough, the police are there and Marcus and Ange barely escape being arrested.  Ms. Galvez seems like a good teacher because she supports Marcus and they have a great discussion in their class.  Mr. Benson soon takes over though and Ms. Galvez is fired.

Little Brother Reflection 5

I feel bad for Marcus at the beggining of chapter 9 because hes is very paranoid.  He is at a high alert state and has to think about everything before he takes an action.  He plays a Pirate game and thinks someone is a member of the DHS when they ask him where he lives.  This could be possible but unlikely.  Later Marcus is talking to Jolu and Jolu comes up with the idea to have a meeting at Sutro Baths.  I wouldn't want to have a meeting there because Marcus describes it as having cigarrettes, beer bottles, and the occasional needle hanging around.  There were a lot of people who showed up to the meeting and if I were Marcus I wouldn't trust all of them unless I knew them personally.  I hope that they are all trustworthy or Marcus will be in big trouble.

Little Brother Reflection 4

Marcus must be very mad because he is taken away by the DHS for a second time. However, Marcus's Mom comes to the rescue when the cops bring Marcus back home. I think this is funny because Marcus was tring to get out of their hands for a while and his Mom made them leave just by getting mad. I also think that the author is trying to make us see Narcus's Mom as a good character. The funniest part of these two chapters was that Marcus's dad said that security was good but got very mad when he got pulled over twice on the same day coming home from work.

Little Brother Reflection 3

At the beginning of chapter 5, Marcus is reunited with Vanessa and Jolu.  I think this lightens up the mood a bit even though they are disunited shortly after to go home.  The reactions to Marcus coming home were what I expected, though for some reason i thought that Marcus would never make it home and have to fight off the DHS for a while then go home at the end of the book.  I thought it was funny how Marcus could sense the DHS behind him when he was going to get something to eat.  It was smart of Marcus to eat as much as he could because he could be taken away again and be hungry.  I like how the author is keeping the action going with the DHS on Marcus's tail.

Little Brother Reflection 2

In this reflection I will be focusing on chapters 3 and 4. This is when people start to panic and everything goes wrong for Marcus and his friends. After Darryl is stabbed and needs medical attention, I think it is funny that this is the reason why Marcus gets in the whole DHS mess. If Darryl was never stabbed, Marcus might not have been captured. However, the book lightens up when Marcus is finally let free in chapter 4. I liked Marcus when he was being questioned because he didn't give in to authority easily. This also gets him in a mess because they think he is a potential terrorist. I think in chapters 3 and 4 Marcus was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Little Brother Reflection 1

In the fist two chapters of Little Brother, we get an introduction to the characters and story. I like Marcus's character because he is a computer geek and is serious (about winning his RPS game he plays with his friends.) I get the feeling that Marcus is also much smarter than his principal, Benson. I feel like the relationship between Darryl and Vanessa will matter later in the book after the terrorist attack happens. The ending of the 2nd chapter was very suprising but convenient for Marcus and his friends. He doesn't get reported to the truant officer but instead is in the middle of what seems like an earthquake. I think this happened early in the book which is good because it keeps ne interested.

March 17, 2011 To Kill a Mockingbird Movie Reflection

Overall, this movie was worth the watch.  The acting was great, my favorite character was Atticus.  They left out many things but it was okay because they weren't essential to the story.  The movie mostly focused on the court trial, seeing as that by itself took up a whole period.  I didn't expect Boo to look that way, he looked very pale.  I think the directors did that on purpose because Boo never gets any sun, he's been inside a house his whole life. Also, I think the Today's Meet was a good idea.  We could share thoughts without speaking out and disrupting the movie.  It was convenient to only have to look a little to the left to find information that you would have otherwise missed.

March 16, 2011 To Kill a Mockingbird Movie Reflection

Today in class the court trial took up most of the time.  I feel like they took a lot of time on the trial because it is an important part of the book.  Most of the things that happened were word-by-word with the book.  Again I thought that the actors did a great job.  I didn't expect Mayella to scream and run away like she did after Atticus questioned her.  I also noticed that most of the stuff that they put in the movie is either related to Tom Robinson's case or Boo Radley's story.  I think they did this because those are the two most important parts of the book and tie in with eachother at the end of the book.  Today in class when we had "Today's Meet" displayed on the wall.  I noticed some things that I wouldn't notice myself by looking at the questions and information.  It was a great way to have questions, answers and useful information because it didn't interrupt the movie.

March 15, 2011 To Kill a Mockingbird Movie Reflection

Today in  class we watched another part of the movie.  I felt like the movie was somewhat out of chronological order and left some things out compared to the book.  However, I enjoyed the movie.  I think the actors are great and do a good job with their characters.  Some things should have been added in, such as the burning of Ms. Maudie's house since it was a whole chapter.  Also, that chapter had something to do with Boo Radley.  I noticed that they also added some things in, such as when Bob Ewell came up to the car when Atticus went to talk to Mrs. Robinson.  Overall, I have enjoyed the movie so far and can't wait to see how the court trial and the ending goes.
